A police camp was set on the outskirts of the town which resided the SWAT team. One of the team members, while on duty, encountered a stray puppy running wild in the area. The place was quite dangerous for it so he tried to make it go away.

But the puppy wanted attention. It acted all cute and clingy to the officer to persuade him to not make it leave. The officer melted a bit and wanted to let it in but this place was not for a stray dog.

After a few minutes, with a heavy heart he tried to make it leave again, and closed the gate. But the gate could not hold it out either. It sneaked in from a little space in the gate. The officer had no idea what to do but then suddenly another stray dog passed by.

Luckily, this puppy ran away, following the other dog. On the next day, that police officer was training the police dog when that same puppy came in again. The officer tried to avoid it and leave with the police dog, but it wasn’t ready to be apart.

Where ever the officer went, the puppy followed him. Not even sparing him a second. The officer was already soft for him and because of it’s behaviour, he decided to keep the puppy.

The puppy was about three months old and very lively. The third day came and the officer was back at his work. But it seemed like the puppy was afraid of him leaving it alone, so it followed him everywhere he went.

The officer took him for a checkup. It’s tail had near to no hair on it. The doctor gave it deworming pills. They had a basic training session with the puppy and it was quite smart.

The puppy ran freely around the officers busy in training. He was so cheerful and full of energy. The department released a search for it’s owners on media.

So many people cane in search of their dogs, but none of them was the owner of this puppy. There was a question floating around the department, was this really a stray dog?

Living there for a few days, it got to know every one in the police department. So lively and smart, there was a thought in the officer’s mind, could it stay and become a police dog?

By the assessment of the physical condition of the Malinois puppy, it was concluded that it had an extra toe on each of it’s hind legs. The dog was so easily injured that it was quite clear that it wasn’t qualified to become a police dog. Unless the wolf toe is removed by operation.

The next day, hearing the voice of food, the puppy rat out and towards the officer to eat. The officer tried to tie it in leash for the first time and it was quiet. But soon, it wanted to join the training session. It moved here and there in an attempt to break free and even succeeded in doing so.

It slowly got used to the leash and the officer started training him to correct the behaviour of picking up food from the ground next. He said no to the puppy and then gave him a treat himself. The training took some time, but it learned to behave.

There were more sessions to correct his behaviour. He was settled in a cage and he slowly adapted his new life. It is a challenge to become a police dog and the training is long. It was given the balance and coordination training. The trainer worked hard with the puppy.

On the eighteenth day, the wolf toes were treated by a simple surgery. If everything went fine, the toes would have had fallen off automatically in a week. The toes were disinfected several times a day.

One toe fell in fou days but it got skin infection. Hence it was treated daily with a hope that it would get well soon. In a few days, it’s athletic abilities enhanced.

After some time, a girl brought a stray puppy for help. It was a little corgi. The puppy didn’t like sharing it’s food with corgi and got into a fight with it. The opportunity was beneficial for training. For the next upcoming days, they fought every day as a part of training. Those two used to train every day together and they even become good friends.

But after some time, the owner of corgi came to take it home. After biding goodbye to it’s new friend, the puppy got back to it’s daily life. It was decided to keep the Malinois puppy in SWAT team. They named it Bhawan. It was a name from not only a movie, but also was the name of a police dog who sacrificed it’s life.

It was hoped that it would become a fabulous police dog over time. Two new puppies were brought to train with Bhawan.

For a dog, ever meal time was a training session. They needed control. They were not qualified to become a police dog yet. The next day, a girl came to the station claiming that Bhawan was her lost dog but Bhawan did not responded to the name ‘Qilin’.

Bhawan was not her dog. She left with disappointment. The dogs were taken out for a walk and the officer observed that one of them was afraid of passing cars. It needed foster care. But Bhawan was different then the rest of them. Being a stray dog, it trained very well.

Bhawan was active, asking to go out on the time for walk. He wasn’t an official police dog yet and could do simple patrols.

The next training was harder. Bhawan was qualified in obidience, awareness, activeness etc. But movement reaction ability and body coordination needed a bit more training.

It was getting better and better, it had a beautiful way of entering the water, though it wasn’t a fast swimmer. But it got the ball with cleverness in the training.

They slowly worked on it’s obidience. One of Bhawan’s training mates, Xiaoki was sent away for social training and when it came back, it seemed so clear how much Bhawan had missed it.

Another few days, and Bhawan became qualified enough to be a police dog. It grew quite decently. Bhawan along with Button, another training mate, went through feeding tests each day. The one who performed well, got an egg. The other one had to improve and sometimes it was Button but sometimes it was Bhawan.

It had been an year since Bhawan joined police force. It had grown into an adult now. It trained very seriously. It was a fast learner. It became the first dog to pass all the obstacles. The results were excellent and it became officially a police dog.

It participated in safety inspection for the first time. It was tired once it got off the work. It had been injured on training many times. But it came back stronger every time.

Being a police dog is not easy

Police dogs are both, hardworking and dangerous. They are the mankind’s underrated friends. So obidient and always out there to protect and rescue people.

Also, we can’t overlook the patience and hardwork of the trainer. It is quite challenging to train dogs to be the rescuers and savers of the world.

To teach them the importance of quickness and awareness. To make them stronger than even a human being. We should appreciate not only the police dogs, but also the trainers on the police force.
