I will never forget the call I received that day regarding a distressed dog on a nearby farm. As a pet rescue advocate, I have seen my share of animals in need, but really nothing can prepare you for what I was to encounter. He said a Great Pyrenees puppy wandered onto his property with its head stuck in a pretzel container.
I thought at first it was some kind of a joke. How on earth can a dog have its head stuck in a pretzel container? But then I saw it, and well, this certainly was no laughing matter. That puppy, later known as Puppaluffagus, really was stuck, and it clearly showed on his face the panicking disposition.
I assessed the situation and tried to think. I went through a close look at the container and the head of the puppy, wondering what exactly was the best thing to do. I did know, however, that I needed to be quick, as the puppy was growing more agitated by the minute.
Looking into the puppy’s eyes, I could feel its fear and puzzlement. It was plain that the little dog had no conception of what was happening and was relying upon me to help. The need to be patient and focused was necessary in order to get this puppy out safely.
I knew this was what was going to free the puppy, so I began carefully cutting the plastic container. I could tell it was a touchy procedure, and that I had to be very, very cautious not to hurt the puppy in the process. I began slowly and carefully cutting the container, trying not to jolt or make any other sudden movements that might startle the puppy.
As I labored to release the puppy, my mind could not help but wonder how this had happened. Had the puppy been playing with the container and hit itself on the head with it? Or maybe the puppy was going through the trash and stumbled upon the pretzel container? However, it really did not matter at this point, for quite obviously, the puppy was in a precarious position, and it all boiled down to me to get it out.
After what seemed like an eternity, I had finally worked the container off the puppy’s head. The puppy was quite shaken up, but otherwise okay; it was contentedly relieved to be free again. I scooped up the puppy in my arms, cradling it and trying to comfort it the best I could.
As I held the puppy in my arms, elation and contentment seemed to overpower me. Moments like these reminded me of why I became involved as a pet rescue advocate in the first place. It’s that feeling when you realize you really made a difference in the life of an animal in dire need.
Eventually, the owners of this puppy were found, and the reunion was one of joy. I watched them embrace and cuddle up their puppy, and I could not help but feel this proud, fulfilled feeling. It was a happy ending to what otherwise might have been a disaster, all because my presence of mind and careful action saved the day.
It was a big reminder to me of the importance of kindness and compassion. In a world that can sometimes seem overwhelming and cruel, it’s the small acts—like this one—that remind us of the power of love and kindness in making a difference.
The memory of Puppaluffagus and his ordeal has stayed in my mind up until the present, and very often I think about the puppy and lessons learned from it. It was a lesson that even in highly unexpected situations, there is the potential for acts of kindness and compassion to shine through. It goes to prove that love and compassion do make a difference in others’ lives.
Why it is important to keep the trash in the trash bags.
I am going to write the slogan as to save planet save earth and all. I am going to be practical. Who is going to save the planet if not us? More importantly, who is going to save our fellow planet mates if not us?
The dog in this blog was clearly an innocent creature and was lost in it’s joyous life trying to have a good time, but the habit of throwing trash anywhere open of us humans lead it to nearly dying. I don’t think anyone should get hurt because we are too stubborn to keep the trash in a restricted area and I don’t think you think that way either.
It’s not only about a dog, but a lot of animals dies all over the world due to consuming plastic and other garbage. So, as to save one life, you should consider keeping the earth clean and healthy to live for not only humans, but to all creatures who are sharing this planet.
